In general, what are the most important things that you have learned through your experiences at the community organization?
My overall experience at the community organization was good. I learned that there are different ways to learning and not all mentally challenged people are bad. People usually give them a bad reputation but most of them are very sweet hearted and very nice. I went to The Arc Of Delaware County where there are mentally disable students learning different was to function in daily lives. In the class I was in there were several students that could hold a full conversation with you, they knew sign language, they also learned what things are socially acceptable and what wasn't.

How did your experiences as a service learner affect the way you think about the issues and/or people that the organization deals with?
Not everything has to be traditional, somethings are better different. Each of those students had different issues that they faced each day, some of them have to deal with problems at home just like "normal" people. From talking to one of the directors from Arc Of Delaware County, he said that there a lot of outside doubt that the students cant learn like everyone else and everyday those negative people are proven wrong. From the outside looking in it seems like they improve everyday and and learn something new everyday. Some even finish their course learning more than others. I learned that everyone brain is different everyone learns differently.

What have you learned about psychology through your service learning and/or volunteer work? Be specific and address your learning objectives for the course
While being in this program I learned that conditioned learning is very effective. Especially when it came down to the students who needed more help than others. They use positive reinforcement as a way to teach the students different things that are in a regular class room. They learn how to do sign language, the alphabet, numbers, objects, and many more things.

What have you personally learned about yourself from your service this semester? How will this experience affect your career path, or your personal life choices?
Personally I learned that there are really many different ways to learning and that there are always a positive to the negative things in life. I also learned that other people go through much more that I do in life. They face many different obstacles in their daily lives that may be over looked because of their learning disabilities. From being in this service learning course I have a better outlook on others and how they interact socially It makes me want to help out more and continue to watch and learn form others.
